Management of hyperlipidaemia and related diseases with natural products
Hyperlipidemia is associated with an increased risk of the development of cardiovascular disease. 37 million adults have levels above 240 mg/dl cholesterol. Adults, who have a cholesterol value of more than 240 mg/dl, have twice the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Nowadays, herbal products are used for prevention, mitigation and treatment of hyperlipidaemia, diabetes, obesity and their complications. Modern primary care practitioners spend considerable time and effort on preventative medicine. Diagnosing and managing hyperlipidemia as a way to prevent cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common activity for primary care physicians. The large number of natural products-derived compounds that are currently in the ongoing stages of clinical trials, indicates that natural products are still a viable source for discovery new drug. Management of hyperlipidaemia with natural products has gained greater interest among medical practitioners worldwide.
